Came across an interesting article in the St Charles Post regarding the City of St. Peters. They provide information on how the city council is going about filling the seat of Len Pagano, who was recently elected mayor (to replace Shawn Brown).
In the article, they state that each person interested in filling the position had to go out and get XXX amount of signatures to be considered.
How enlightened!
Not only appointed, but has to have some backing to even be considered.

Been a real long time for me. I went to the meeting tonight wondering to myself if anybody else would want to be considered for the Ward 4 position.
It really irritated me that the Mayor said he was not going to allow the council to ask questions of the the candidates. Cuminale, May and Conlon should be commended for their concerns and comments.
I cannot believe that my councilman Jones voted against allowing the council to ask questions of the candidates.
When the stars line up and Jones is on team Owensbey its real apparent a deal was given to Owensbey to vote for Dills and for Jones to be the consumate lapdog.
These two are embecels. They have a lot nerve to turn around after trying to deny the right to question the candidates and then question them that's classic ORTwellian
It appears to me there are three honest brokers that sit on the board the Ward One council people and Conlon.
Of all the candidates there it was perfectly clear that Les Dills was the least qualified of all and he is a rubber stamp. O'Conells softball question to Dills was so bogus I can't believe this guy
Sad thing, it appears likely that cronyism remains alive and well in Overland.
The other 4 candidates are such better choices.
Say It Ain't So
An interesting process, but in the end, it didn't accomplish much as the mayor and aldermen couldn't agree and the seat will remain vacant until the next municipal election in April.
Good,
It should be left vacant until the voters have a chance to elect another shill like Tim Jones.
Anyone ask Lester how much he contributed to Schneider's campaign and whether he would follow Schneider's example of ignoring the Supreme Court of Missouri?
Long live corruption, long live patronage long live inefficiency.
It definitely was interesting. A total of 5 people put their name in the hat for consideration. There would probably be more if 1)it was more publicized and 2)people didn't think the process was pre-polluted by Schneider's Dills pick.
The "no questions" almost made me hit the roof. What was the point of the whole process that evening if there were not to be any questions? Then Schneider said something about the council members could question the candidates on their own time after the meeting. How open is that? Wasn't the point of "workshopping" this issue was because it was not open to begin with?
I just have to wonder what these folks on the council are thinking.
Keller didn't ask a single question. Which is not only a disservice to the folks of Ward 4 who are counting on the council to make the best selection, but just adds to the ridicule of Ward 3.
I have just heard what went on at the workshop last evening. Open interviews? Hopefully the city won't be sued. Overland has sunk to another new low.
Unheardof,
I know what you mean by your name/handle. Open government has practically been unheard of in the recent history of Overland.
That said, why would you think the city would be sued? They interviewed for what would normally be an elected position (not for a file clerk) and an open process was needed by the voters of Ward 4.
If anything, the city could be sued for having a closed process on how the nominee is chosen.
5 sought the vacant Ward 4 seat at last night's council meeting.
GOOD: Jim Schmidt, Pat Westhoff and Jim Wade gave great answers and are worthy candidates.
BAD: Schneider wanted no questions from the councilmen. I guess it is "my way or the highway" after all.
Edgar,
Thanks for the link to the Journal article. However, I want to point out that the Journal hardly gets it right.
Yes, all 5 agreed that there should be a CA. However, Dills stated that he did not want this person to oversee department heads or be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the city.
This just shows that Dills is for the same-old bullcrap that has been going on for years.
Dills: Yes, I want a CA.
Dills (1 minute later): No, I don't want them to have any substantional duties or powers.
Sailor did record the meeting. I assume he will post it on his blog soon. (Please post a note here when that is done, Sailor!)
Dear Mrs. Jax,
I've been informed you run this site. Please do not post this. I am using a fake email. This is the reason MBC did not get elected as Mayor, believe me it has been discussed a lot. i believe u are a friend of hers, you need to tell her to go out and buy a couple of suits, maybe black and blue or brown with different tops to go with them. People have talked about her attire, you would be doing her a big favor.
We now have the video of the meeting online, though a more detailed article will have to wait until later in the week. You'll find the video here
Sorry of the delay but it took an enormous amount of time to get the sound amplified to the point where most would be able to here the Council clearly.
It seems to me that when people disagree with the POV expressed by me or others on this site, a resort to personal attacks ensues. My opinion has nothing to do with my weight, yet some want to post about that. If you have a gripe about my opinion, present your counter-point.
The same with this ass who posted about clothing. If MBC wore $300 suits some would gripe that she doesn't dress like the typical "Overlander". If she dresses less than $300 suits, you get assholes like "just a secret".
I really don't care if my council member comes dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, it's their votes and actions that are important.
I see Dills' position on a C.A. completely in-line with COGG/ORT/Schneider governing philosophy.
I completely accept Dills' support for creating the position of CA in the City's governance.
I completely accept Dills' preference for not endowing the position with any real duties, power or responsibility.
And, I completely accept that Dills' already has some ineffectual
loser relative or double-dipping pensioner with no experience in public administration lined-up to take another seat at the public trough.
Did Schneider/Jones ask Lester about his position on illegal campaign contributions?
"Purchase a paid term of service for this board."
Hey FineWine, time for you to buck-up!
Justasecretasshole,
Please post your picture and address. We would like to scrutinize you, your looks, your hair, your wardrobe.
From what I've read, the personal attacks seem to go both ways. For example, I've read more than I care to about Owensby's personal life, hairpiece, appearance and whatever else certain posters choose to dig up -- or make up -- about him.
Whatamess, you are correct. There is so much to disagree with Owensby on with his policies, votes, and general disagreeable attitude he brings to council meetings that the "rug" comments are really just too easy and simple (and not necessary).
suzyjax I agree. And speaking of disagreeable attitudes, am I reading the new Mayor wrong or does he come across as somewhat pompous and unfriendly? This isn't meant as a personal attack, it just seems like a little charisma could enhance effective leadership.
On another note, anyone hear any updates on the building inspector situation? Have they hired anyone? I heard Boone took a vacation. Who's running the department?
Are you speaking of Kenny "the Coach" Blowensme and that disguise he wears all the time? Does anyone know what Kenny looks like when out of costume? I guess the disguise he wears is so he can walk among us in his private life.
