May Hits it on the Head!

Just wanted to give some feedback from Monday's meeting. Of course, I will expect lots of comments once you have seen it for yourself on Channel 18, come Thursday.

I couldn't help myself, but poking a bit of fun at the Mayor. So, I posted a story on the Picayune about Salesman Schneider trying to Cold Call Costco.

Okay, on to the serious stuff.

During appointments the mayor appointed Jeff O'Connell (Ward 2) to the remainder for the term in Planning and Zoning. He did NOT mention that some members on P&Z terms have expired.

He also tried to appoint Les Dills to the open seat in Ward 4. This generated debate on the process (or lack thereof) in coming up with this appointment. It was decided to table this and discuss at a workshop meeting. This was much to the chagrin of Tim Jones, who pleaded with the council that he needed help in serving Ward four (I thought maybe he would start to cry).

The best part of that debate was Jerry May (Ward 1). He correctly stated that during the Purzner administration the council voted down her appointments because of the lack of transparency in the process of her picks. And, among those voting it down were himself and the Mayor. Wouldn't it be a bit hypocritical if they were to ignore that same circumstance on this occasion?

Wow! I could not have said it better! May really came to the point that everyone was supposedly fighting for last year--Open Government.

Okay, the rest of the meeting. A few new businesses were approved and bids for things such as concrete and asphalt were opened (snooze). The only bills passed dealt with buying salt from the City of Chesterfield and having it hauled to Overland.

Overall uneventful. Lots of stuff deferred to the workshop meeting this Monday (9/17). That might last 5 hours with all they have planned.

Here is a drinking game you can play while watching on Channel 18.

Take a drink everytime Chuck Boone says one of the following phrases:

"it's not gonna be cheap"

"long, tedious process"

Yes!
Or, take a drink everytime Schneider says "I'm not a my way or the highway kind of guy" (coincidentally said after every time he didn't get his way).

I wrote a letter to the following companies on behalf of the City. It is an incomplete list but thought i wouldd give some flavor: Ascent Power, The American Generator Company, O-K Generators and Diesel Service, Pantropic Power Products, Inc., Energy Systems of Alabama, LLC, Kossen Equipment, Inc.

The only thing that is long, tedious and not cheap is Chuck Boone's career. Feeding at the trough sucking-up patronage faster than Sweaty Pickle and a pack of Pall Malls.

"I'm an under the table kind of guy"

Tim Jones is swamped and needs help so he turns to an eighty year old man who does not pay his property taxes for help?

Tim Jones must luv himself some Mike Schneider. I bet he has one of those campaign posters of Schneider grill with Lee Greenwood playing in background.

Overland has entered its' Fort Courage Era with selection of it's Ward Warrier Deputy Chief.

The Hekawi area, formerly known as Ward One will under the guidance of John Vitale aka Chief Wild Eagle. We all remember him, the Purzner supporter who railed on the Police Department during the Dody administration. He was the one wearing the Ann Purzner T-shirt at the Council meetings prior to the 06 elections.

The same self employed painter is going to help the tribe to adapt to MTS aka Sgt. Morgan O'Rourke. I'm sure the code enforcers are going to find a lot of peeling paint in the Hekawi Ward.

Be on Guard you Hekawi's the paint's gonna chip.

Expect the appointment for the Former Ward 2, now known as the Shugs to be forth coming. It is anticipated Council O'Connell aka Roaring Chicken to have input in that one

Suzy,
Looks like the Post picked up on the Schneider thing. Good quotes, although I can't believe that Jeri is crying poor.

suzyjax said...

Best quote is Jeri's reasoning for adding legal fees to the reports. “We would not have to have spent the money were it not for the election,” she said.

Umm..perhaps they should have received their receipts for gas from QuikTrip. After all, you wouldn't have had to buy all that gas for your parade if you were not in the election.

Oh brother...what else could they add.

Do you recognize your city in this story?

Thanks for sharing that Onion piece, that was funny. You bet I can see my town in that one to a degree, but I can also see every town I ever lived in. However, as with our meetings in Overland today, there are always a few good comments, ideas, suggestions, announcements that make listening to the rest (that often tend to subconsciously provoke a brief dog-like head tilt to the left) worth the effort for me personally.

I'll be interested to hear what comes of a MoEC hearing on those donations. Any idea where and when a hearing might be held?

There would have been no legal expenses if he,

1. paid his taxes
2. not run for mayor to begin with

If it's all above board why didn't she give the name of the official that told them they could keep all those donations.

If they need anymore legal advice on how to handle this new situation, they could try to get ahold of Tolen, I would think he's in a position to handle it for a very reasonable fee & he probably has plenty of time on his hands.

Sailor--I think Residents' Comments have definitely gone down hill when someone is up there hawking T-Shirts! I was expecting someone to get up and advertise their garage sale next.

Jeri Schneider--stop the Bullcrap! It seems every time someone points out that your husband is doing questionable activity you throw out the "hurting the city" line. If anyone is hurting the city it is unethical people like your husband in charge of the game.
BTW, pay your personal property taxes!!! If your husband wasn't found to deserve a waiver don't you think that passes along to you!

PTT said...

If you want to "heal" the City, my advise to you is to start involving other members of the community in your administration Be inclusive rather than exclusive. You see Mike there are many talented people in this community that would be of great value to your administration. But if you are going to run the City through your COGG Cloister, you will only draw suspicion. If you need to take out loan to repay the illegal contributions then do so. It would be a small price to pay to earn the respect of your opposition.

“We did our best to run a clean, upfront, straight up campaign,” Schneider said.

Accepting illegal campaign contributions is the best Schneider can do?

“We would not have to have spent the money were it not for the election,” she said.

You would not have had the personal legal expenses to defend your personal choice to be on the ballot if you would have paid your personal property taxes.

"She said criticism of the donations was part of an effort of her opponents to pick apart her husband’s campaign and work as mayor."

Criticism is part of an effort to have you and your husband conform with the Missouri Ethics Commission and the Missouri Supreme Court decision on campaign donation limits.

Just because Schneider did not question or fight for the city when Purzner was in, where do they think they are exempt from scrunity or of being questioned.

Just because Purzner is out & he's in does not mean everyone has forgotten what happened & why.

If he has nothing to hide, I would think they would welcome all questions & any background checks people are going to find out about.

Does anyone know anything about the inspector that was just hired?

suzyjax said...

First let me qualify that this is rumor, or something I heard through the grapevine.

I heard that the new person was a former employee rehired. On the day he was to start, he balked at starting pay. That's about all of the story I heard...I didn't hear if he actually showed up, negotiated, or whatever.

John Moyle said...

Great points Gravy I could not agree more on this one.

Mayor Schneider won the election, but a bit over half of those who voted did not vote for him. That means he is far from having a mandate. He needs to work on things that will help bridge divides and resolve credibility issues as you said.

Bringing his campaign donations into compliance in with the law and reaching out to active residents outside his own political camp would definitely be steps in the right direction, just as his willingness to listen to the entire Council and ultimately agree to hold off on the Ward 4 appointment until after a workshop meeting was.

When you're trying to make new things happen and you have to answer to people to succeed you absolutely have to get the majority of those people on your side. In the case of politicians those people are the voters.

Say It Ain't So said...

I wonder if the person at the County Board of Election who supposedly told the Schneider's to take the money is the same person from the Dept of Revenue who told them they didn't have to pay taxes.

Will these people ever take responsibility for their own actions?

Who in their right mind would get the idea that there was a green light to accept those large contributions after being told that the legality of the unlimited donations was in litigation with the Missouri Supreme Court? Then after the Supreme Court rules they are illegal who accepts more illegal donations?

The Schneider's of course.

Tom,

You couldn't be more correct. Hell, the limit was well known. It was even reported here on this blog for goodness sakes.

I would like to support the guy, but he can't seem to "come correct" on anything. His wife cries poor saying,"my husband works for Western Diesel". During the campaign the acted like he owned Western Diesel.

As you point out, it is really funny that every someone asks them to explain some irregularity they have with the law they pull out the "Someone at the County told us to it was ok to break the law."

suzyjax said...

The Post has a small bit of the blog version as part of Jo Mannies column today, near the bottom. In the print version, the Election Board denies they would even rule/comment on this one way or the other.

PTT said...

Mrs. Schneider told a flat-out lie to the reporter when asked why they accepted the illegal campaign contributions. I mean flat-out lie.

Here is a little advice for the Schneider's. When the County tells you that you do not have to comply with state law, get the person''s name.

Schneider's new campaign slogan.

"Different enough to pocket the Difference"

Say It Ain't So said...

It's just another pattern of deception and lies. Speaking of patterns there is nothing in the Suburban Journals that says that they are accepting applications for the ward 4 seat. How does the council expect it to be transparent when they don't inform the public about the opening.

PS how can we find out when the hearing is I think it would be good to write letters demanding they repay. Fiancial Hardship for them? Give me a break.
