Lacking Backbone

Last night's council meeting was a demonstration of what can happen with a lack of backbone. Les Dills was appointed unanimously. I have spoken with several council members and this is NOT what they wanetd. However, they were worried about their political reputation and thus voted with "the crowd".

I think last night's meeting will stand as a defining moment for the entire city council, but especially for those folks who voted against their conscience and better judgment. These are the people who put their political futures above the city's future. These are the people we will hold accountable for all the lack of progress and continued cronyism that will happen. And, indeed it has begun to happen in that very same meeting (see above story on Giroux Gang).

Even if these folks vote "progressively" in the future, the fact that the helped in changing the balance of the city council to ensure that progress would NOT happen makes them culpable.

To those city council members who are worried about re-election should take heed that these are the very actions that the constiuency remembers. For any COGG votes you may have gained, you lost two to three of the rest of us.

You should be ashamed of yourselves!!

I will not support any of the Council members that voted for the Dills appointment anytime in the future.

It is not like a big deal or anything. The old saw "you can't fight patronage hall" is apt in Overland.

Schneider is corrupt. I know of several occasions where Schneider used his position at Western Diesel to "purchase" votes through Western Diesels coffers.

Several cases occurred with Overland business that Western Diesel has NEVER EVER conducted business. But, for some reason Western Diesel's purchasing agent found Overland businesses worthy of receiving orders "compliments of Mike" in the two months prior to election. No exaggeration. Within days, out of nowhere Frank Munch would then appear hat-in-hand soliciting campaign contributions for Schneider.

Since election Western Diesel has not bought anything from an Overland business.

It is truly sad that the owners of Western Diesel have their company's finances used by Mike Schneider for Mike Schnieder's personal aspirations. It is sad that he would try to funnel Western Diesel's money to his campaign through this scheme.

It is also sad that Mike Schneider has never directed business to an Overland proprietor except in the two months prior to election.

Certainly he will approach managing the City is similar fashion and he shouldn't think for a moment that his one-time purchase has earned him anything but contempt.

In summation let me say, "what a Dick."

I may not know a lot about politics but I do know about principles. Principles are what is lacking in those councilmembers that voted for Dills even when they knew he was the one for the job.

Those members that face re election in 010 may have some breathing room, the electorate suffers from short term memory lose.

Those who have to face it in April can look forward to difficult campaigns from the ordinary folke. They may have picked up the Dody Ole Boys Vote but there's 3 in my house they lost and I won't hesitate to spread the word.

Congratulations folks you took the first step in selling your souls, the next time will come easier.

What a DISGRACE

This council must be watched! We can phone and write to them; their addresses are listed on the City of Overland website. We must speak out during citizen's comments.

There will be no city administrator if they are not watched. WHY isn't the East-West Council of Governments not contacted about helping with a CA for Overland? Wouldn't a CA be the person to look at and lead the redo of the master plans for the city done a few years ago, with the help of one council person from each ward? CA administrators are trained to look at city's strengths and weaknesses.

Mark Giroux must be watched. He commented as COGG's president that MBC's inquiry about Schneider's eligibility to run as Overland's mayor because of unpaid personal property tax was a "dirty trick."
He even let people put on a 'Schneider for Mayor' button during a COGG meeting whether the person wanted them or not.

Schneider can be "charming" when he wants something - your confidence - so be careful when he invites you to lunch or sits down with you at the Legion or the OBA.

Isn't it amazing that someone who was away from Overland for 20 years thinks he can KNOW our problems and sucesses? Some Overland people were dumb enough to fall for the parade, the letter with the half-truth and the ridiculous amount of money spent to elect Schenider.

Gravy, you are right we need to elect 'new' council people in April; people who think about what is best for all the people of Overland.
