You know I am a girl who likes to broaden my horizons as well as one who likes to keep my finger on the pulse of what is happening. As part of that, I am a regular reader of Tony Messenger of the Springfield News-Leader. This allows me to read about Missouri news without a St. Louis slant.
While on the News-Leader site tonight, I came across the following: "City Should Cast for Top Talent". It gives some good arguments on the case for professional management, including how it is not only worth the salary but worth the money spent on the search.

I just love to speak for other people, so here I go:
I think when people interchange CA and CM they are really referring to "professional management of city business" in some form.
The article I linked refers to a CM. However, the arguments given can easily be applied to Overland's search of a CA.
The gentleman speaking at the OBA is a certified city planner. He will be speaking about redevelopment, something on every Overlanders wishlist.
Additional EMPTY questions to consider (in addition the the plagiarism):
1) Will Schneider come out of the meeting realizing his letter writing campaign just wasn't enough?
2) Will we suddenly be trashing the idea of a CA and now they will push for a city planner instead?
I hope the cocktail party tonight went well. I might just drag my big butt out of bed and give a listen to what this guy has to say tomorrow.
Perhaps Mikey-Mike can ask about the skateboard park he wants/promised.

Thanks for the invite to the OBA meeting. For past few years I have wondered why everyone would look puzzled when I would enter the OBA meetings. Turns-out, Fido hadn't yet invited me. Sorry for crashing the party for all this time Fido.

You think it may be possible that I am quite keen on the difference between a traditional City Administrator/Manager and that I am purposely using City Manager over City Administrator because I prefer City Manager over City Administrator? Not to mention its difference to professional planning.
The City of Overland says they are going to subsidize the poor, build a skateboard park, and establish hiring practices based on merit, so they want a City Administrator and not a City Manager also.
Great I'll take note. In the mean time, I wish the City would employ a City Manager.
The COGG employees of the city of Overland continue to fight it. I heard at the comprehensive meeting this week the City Treasurer who has no qualifications to be city treasurer, said the city doesn't need a city administrator. Instead she said the city needs an Economic Development Director.
Well Ms. Treasurer I find it hard to fathom that you, the unqualified treasurer with no qualifications has the grooming to tell the city that the city doesn't need a city administrator. I'm sure many great ideas will come from the comprehensive board, but not too many brilliant ideas are going to come from any of the former Mayor's Munsch, Dody, and now present Mayor lackey's.
Subsidize - while talking about subsidizing maybe the city of Overland can just continue down the path of subsidizing COGG members with jobs.
Go figure when it was the city treasurer prompting the acting dirctor of PW to hire the his recent new hired employees afterall, with connections like that why would Fran Kuhlman want a city administrator? And why surely injest they want to tamper with the powers bestowed on the CA ie his or her authority to hire or fire. Hum the more things are suppose to change the more the stay the same.
You are bright, you read, you are educated, please tell me how does one get to be "professional management of city business" and as a fortune teller if they are so good why do they need to be?
I am sure there is no one elected up there capable, but as a person that fervently believes we do not need a city, why again do we need this person, another layer of B’S’ers?
I suspect that you people of higher learning, believe that is the secret of managing anything?
I am not against higher learning, I fail to see the higher ability of those of you that have accomplished it.

I think your arguments say it all. With all the BS that goes on at City Hall, why wouldn't we want a non-political objective person running the show? Inherently this person will take the BS out of city hall.
Read AllCOGGedUp and you will see why we need to remove the politics and the patronage, etc from the hiring process. And that is just one aspect of city hall.
Think about things like economic development, public works projects, etc that can be improved by hiring a non-partisan person to this position.

Festus — The City Council on Wednesday extended the three-year contract for trash hauler IESI for an additional year.
Trash will continue to be picked up once per week, recycling once per week and yard waste once per month. The fee will increase to $13.38 per month from $12.96.
