TRASH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The City of Overland has established a Trash Assistance Program to help needy residents with payment of their trash collection bill which will be paid directly to the trash collection agency. There will be a 30 day sign up period beginning February 1, 2008 and ending March 3, 2008. A copy of your 2006 Missouri Tax Return; 2006 Federal Tax Return, and most recent bill from Allied Waste must be presented at time of applying. For more information, contact Overland City Hall @ 314-428-4321
Here is a link to the story in the Overland-StAnn Journal. Neither mentions much about the criteria. The ordinance states it is tied to federal poverty guidelines.
I just wonder. Do the people that fall into these guidelines actually own homes and thus are responsible for their trash service? How are the people being notified about this program? Or, in other words, will we get the budgeted 200 people to participate?

After Ken is defeated I'm sure he will be eligible for the program himself.
Ken says his job....wait a minute....what job...representing his constituents.....not a job really....more like being jobbed.....I wonder if COGG and ORT will have dueling mobile signs each trying to play Lee Greenwood louder than the other.
You put the COGG into office.....dumbass.
On a prior post someone mentioned that a former Councilman Doug Saye had applied for the CA job. I thought it was just another Overland rumor. Yesterday while at the CC I was talking to an old friend who confirmed it and that DS is the Mayor's chosen person.
Now if this is suppose to be a confidental processs then why did a resident know. I was told that Tim Jones and Les Dills are very aware of Doug Saye's application. So what about the other 6? I guess it makes since I was told Doug Saye had a Schneider sign in his yard. Also this man also mentioned that one of the topics for this weeks workshop is Chuck Boone.
One other thing this man said. He found it interesting that the Suburan Journals writer Buck Collier continues to write several stories about Overland but that Buck Collier NEVER attends Overland City Council Meetings. This man personally knows Buck Collier and found it concerning that Collier seems to just call up the city hall and get details of the meeting from single sources. This is a diservice. THe Suburban Journals has hit a new low. How can you trust that paper if they don't even send a reporter to the meetings and instead call the Mayor directly and ask him what happened? I think the Suburban Journal needs a few phone calls to them requesting a new writer, and some one who will atttend the meetings instead of phoning their chosen mouth pieces.
Speaking of Grants. I watched the meeting. Does the Mayor realize that we don't care about how good he feels about his job. I'm very disappointed I see nothing happening. We found out at this meeting that the city once again lost a parks grant. The Mayor who famous comment "Grant Fairy's" seemed to dismiss this issue.
Didn't us taxpayers pay for a grant writer to write the grant? So why did he loose it?
What are his priorities? All I see is more and more for sale and for lease signs going up in Overland and a Mayor living in a fantasy land. Also I heard that he is now vying for a position on the Municipal League Board. He needs to spend more time with us in Overland and less time outside of Overland smoozing. I saw him with Governor Blunt at the VFW I thought he was a Democrat. What a salamandor he is
Shout out to Gravy. Big ups brah.
Good to see you the other night. I'm still rollin' out here. Been a long time since I commented. Frankly, since John Doe left, things just ain't been the same. Site seems to have lost its........ no use complaining.
More traffic flowing through Overland than ever before and still no plan, comprehensive or otherwise, to attract businesses that can capitailze on traffic flow. I'm not talking tax abatement, TIF or Enterprise Zones, I'm just talking about basic, garden-variety zoning.
BUT, now that we have the whole trash issue solved, we can return our focus back to the rats. Maybe we should bring back Ralph Kaiser, John Bennisch or Jim Veath..... that's right, I'm talking Dog Catcher. We had no rodent problem with that crew around. Now we have the worst of all worlds, no animal control AND an alderman who apparently wears bait on his head. This is a recipe for disaster.
Meanwhile, the traffic on Page just keeps flowing on by (that's "by" and not "buy")and the money stays firmly in the communters' wallets.
Well played Overland. Cheers.
See you at the Maul.
The Buck Collier thing doesn't shock me at all. It is not like the Journal claims to be a bastional of professional journalism, righ?
As far as the Doug Saye thing, if they hire him despite other, more competent applicants I think MTS will have a really big problem. DOUG SAYE DOES NOT MEET ANY OF THE QUALIFICATIONS!!!!!!
It's like Ol'Empty is Purzner sans the dress.
Boone as a topic for a workshop? I hope it is to get rid of him and not to bump up his salary.
I thought there was a workshop either Monday or Tuesday. Neither date is listed on the city webpage or on the city calendar.
I guess if Schneidr had the judge overturn the meeting location it also means turning over notification via the web. I don't think that is what the judge had in mind.
I would know this Saye character but I can certainly attest to the fact that he is most certainly qualified.
He has direct relationship with Mayor. Schneider doesn't have the stones to hire a professional. The Emperor wears no cloths if you know what I be sayin. He is so insecure with his own abilities he wouldn't dare support a City Maninistrator that was not beholden to him personally, politically and intellectually.
Which gets back to the harp I keep playing. The City Maninistrator position will not change anything in Overland regardless of their skill or experience. Professional bureaucracy can be minimally effective if it is founded on sincere political consensus.
With four of the eight councilpersons not being too bright, we should expect the City's administration to be a direct reflection of its do nothing Mayor.
Overland will change in spite of our leaders. Modernity will eventually swallow the slow, dimwitted and antiquated thus making the City government less and less relevant to our lives.
Don't look for Boone to be leaving any time soon. He's running all over town telling anyone who will listen how many jobs he's doing (Director of Public Works, Assistant Director of Public Works, Chief Inspector, etc.). He's definitely doing the hard sell to get himself more money.
Wow. Kaiser, Benisch and Veith. There's a blast from the past. Last I heard, Kaiser was happily retired, Benisch was with St. Charles City and Veith was with St. Charles County. If we're talking about bringing back former employees, I'd add Jim Corbett and Jim Fossell to that list too.
The Saye-for-CA rumors are distressing indeed. If that happens, it shows this entire CA hiring process has been a sham and Overland city government will once again be a laughing stock.
There will be no talk of Boone leaving Overland PW. It's not going to happen. Mike owes Chuck too much.
If it is about a raise my fearless Ward 4 councilman Lester Dill is the one who made a motion to give Boone a raise.
I wonder how much money is
the Mayor proposing they pay Boone?
I imagine it is very substantial.
Boost up the pensions before they retire you know.
Smart move on Dills part with his upcoming election he can run that he gave a PW/COGG member a much needed raise. I love it.
The only thing they are accomplishing since the Mayor's election is boosting up benefits and pay for employees that helped Mike get elected.
Yea as Gravy says - the ORT fell hook line and sinker for the Dody boys again.
