Meeting Change Notice

For those who did not know:

THE OVERLAND COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 11TH HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, AUGUST 18TH, 2008 AT 7:15 P.M.

That gives Courtney one more week to try to figure out how to tape the show off of cable.

However, this notice was also posted on the city's website. Don't know why this topic can't be covered at the Monday meeting that week.

SPECIAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 21st 2008, 5:30 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF CITY HALL

AGENDA TOPICS:

The purpose of the meeting will be to set the City's Tax Rate

My Dumbest Nominee: Chuck Boone

Would you hire someone who very publicly gave a "kiss my ass" to his former employer and their customers? What if that former employer was a city and their customers were citizens like you?

Well, that's exactly what ol' Chuck Boone wants you to do. He, who in the biggest drama queen fashion, quit his job as assistant public works director in the middle of a City Council meeting. With no notice. With all hubris.

That same Chuck Boone wants you to hire him as Democratic Committeeman for Midland Township. Now this is a person I've never seen work on a political campaign. He has also never given money to any campaign (based on records from both the Federal Election Commission and the Missouri Ethics Commission). Why the sudden interest in party politics? Maybe because the COGG and Dody faction hate Jeff O'Connell who currently holds the Committeeman position for Midland Township? Revenge and hate shouldn't be a reason for running for political office.

Thus, my nomination for Dumbest is Chuck Boone who thinks we would hire him for Dog Poop Collector after he unceremoniously sayanora'd his last job. Runner up is Womak--who aligns herself with such a Schmuck.

When you pull the campaign finance records for both Boone and his running partner, Rhonda Womack, the writing is on the wall who is behind these candidates. First, Dody has given the maximum contribution to each candidate. Then, there is Carol Hopkins (you know the poor lady who can't afford her property taxes). She has not only contributed to their campaigns, but is serving as the Treasurer of Womack's campaign. Like Boone, Womack has never been known to participate in Democratic politics on any level in the past. She is only on record as giving one contribution to a candidate--and that was AFTER she filed for the office.

It is not enough that the Dody-ites and COGGsters want to ruin the City of Overland. They want to ruin the Democratic Party too.

I say keep O'Connell and Strothcamp.

Overland in the News: Dumb and Dumber

Just browsing through my Journal and found two stories of interest to all you Overlanders.

First, Overland proposes a Page program for the municipal court. The story talks about how the three court employees are working 12 hours a day. That means lots of overtime, which seems a bit silly. The proposal to lighten the load is to start a Page program for area high school students. But, these kids won't just supplement their work and lessen overtime, the plan is to fire one of the court clerks in favor of these kids. The article states the court is making over $100,000 more per year in increased fines. Surely--with that kind of cash flow in the courts--we can afford to keep the 3 workers, limit or elmiminate the overtime, and institute a page program. What next, replacing the mayor with Ritenour's Student Council President? File this under DUMB.

In the Dumber category, is the not so bright Courtney Cerulo. This friend of Ann Purzner and pal to Owensby is complaining to Journal hack Buck Collier that the city is charging her for a DVD copy of a recent city council meeting. Having some experience in the world of multimedia, the prices quoted by the city are right in line with the local industry. Part of the high cost are the minimums and that only one copy is being made. Usually dozens, if not hundreds, of copies are made which spread the cost among the larger quantities. Surely, some of her ORT or COGG pals have access to Charter cable and could tape a copy for her. Like Cerulo's attacks on Cuminale that just make the prior Public Works administration look bad, this attempt to make the city appear aggregious only serves to make her look--well, not smart.

So there is the Dumb and Dumber. Surely, readers, you have some nomination for Dumbest in recent Overland news.

Competing with the MLS

From yesterday's Post, the city desires to attract new businesses and residents by compiling a database of all available property. Was this the "Peeping Tom" Fitzgerald project? We've already discussed the problems with that. Regardless, don't we think realtors have access to the MLS database and can find Overland properties that ARE truly available?

That aside, I am happy to hear that they realize they have been unduly burdensome on new businesses and folks in the past (see the "Eedie Cuminale story"). Now, THAT is progress!

COGG shows their A** (as usual)

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief over what is wrong with some of these COGG fools. They were completely disruptive during Monday's meeting. Their friend Mayor Mike was none too pleased. The Chief had to settle them down a few times.

But, really, what is wrong with COGG?

Beautification Committee Oversteps Bounds with YOUR tax dollars

Overland Beautification Committee scheduled for June 19,2008 at 7:00 P.M.IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF CITY HALLAGENDA
TOPICS:
1. Presentation Mr. Richard Lauwerens--Verdin Corp.
RE: Clock Tower and Carillon at City Hall

Didn't we vote for these funds to be spent on beautification of rights of ways, etc? I don't believe they can legally spend this money on fixing up City Hall. That would be Prop O/Capital Improvments Funds--and out of the realm of this committee charter.

But then again, Lisa Rodolfi wants this done so I guess the ethical/legal ramifications will be ignored.
